One on One Consultations
Overview
We strongly believe that a classroom environment is a helpful way to build a writer’s community.
We also understand that sometimes we all need a little one-on-one help to get our story where it needs to go. And so, we offer several ways to work with some of our instructors in sessions that can be designed for your specific needs.
Each writer has a specialization in various ways to look at the script you’re writing. We all work a little differently, and we’re here to help.

I am here to help you travel the distance between the writer you already are and the writer you will be in the future. I’m very interested in the structure underneath the stories that are important to you, and I’m here to help you make those clearer.
I write a lot of Hallmark movies and somehow specialize in Christmas, I’ve been in a couple of TV Writers Rooms, and I love to teach. I do this at the MFA level (School of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia), in adult education (The Writer’s program at UCLA Extension), and in workshops here at Propath (RomCom TV Movies).
My favorite writers to work with are those who believe that talent isn’t enough, and are curious about the craft of beginning, middle, and end. Together, we’ll meet on your schedule, we’ll talk about the story you’re writing but we’ll also talk about things like procrastination, how to use emotion to drive the story, and what to do with your script once you’ve finished.
My philosophy in working with writers 1:1 is that you are already smart enough to make it happen, let’s just clear some of the worry out of the way.

In addition to being a writer, I am also a professional story analyst for companies like Paramount Pictures and Netflix, and have a background working in development for DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox. When I work with writers individually to help them further develop an idea or give notes to strengthen a script, I use the same template as I do at the studio.
We focus on making sure the foundation is solid, with clear, purposeful character points of view and arcs, and solid plots that showcase the writer’s original ideas and have all the conflict and tension necessary to make the script a page-turner.
I also go through the script scene by scene, to make sure each beat of the story is where it needs to be, and that the dialogue flows, is entertaining, and is clearly communicating the story to the audience. Working with writers is the best part of my job, and I can tell you, as a writer, knowing what to do with feedback on your script is an essential part of the business.
Also, when I am stuck on something in my own work, the first thing I do is phone-a-writer-friend, and it’s always a relief to have some help but to not be in the creative process alone.
